FIBA Oceania Men’s Championship 2007
Resi, Resi, Resi, Oi, Oi Oi...
Resi was the proud presenting partner of the 2007 FIBA Oceania Men’s Championship series. All three games were action packed - it was a do or die clash with the winning team directly qualifying for their place in the Olympics in Beijing next year.
The championship began on Monday August 20 at the Vodafone Arena in Melbourne and continued on Wednesday August 22 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, before finishing on Friday August 24 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Resi pole posters, banners and smart cars greeted the thousands of fans that packed the venues. All three games were enjoyed by both Resi customers and Resi staff who watched the heated clashes from some of the best seats in the stadium.
The first game of the competition set the Aussie fans on fire as the Boomers left the Vodafone Arena as victors against the Tall Blacks with a 79-67 win! New Zealand trailed by only six points at half time but the Boomer’s defense was boosted in the third quarter as the audience held up their Resi “defense” signs. The boomers set the standard for the rest of the match and they raced away to a comfortable victory.
The second game was crucial as the Tall Blacks needed this to remain in the Championship. While the game started slow, the audience didn’t miss a second as the Resi timeouts were filled with more cheering and Mexican waves. The crowd was egged on as they were rewarded with Resi basketball shirts and during half time they had the opportunity to prove their basketball skills in the “Resi Shoot for Loot” contest.
So remained the final game in Brisbane, and while the Boomer’s had secured a definite place at next year’s Olympics, the New Zealand Tall Blacks gave the crowd an impressive and exciting final game. The youngsters in the crowd weren’t left out either as they busted a move or two on the court, with the best ‘boomer and shaker’ getting a Resi basketball shirt! The lively crowd at the Brisbane Entertainment centre watched the Tall Blacks skilfully scoring their way to a 67-58 victory.
Congratulations to the Australian Boomers and we wish them all the best of luck at next year's Beijing Olympic Games.
