The 11th annual 2011 RESI River Race was hosted by the Brisbane Outrigger Canoe Club and this year helped to re-activate activity around the iconic Brisbane River after the devastating floods.
Members from outrigging clubs around Australia and New Zealand took part in a race held on Saturday 16th April 2011 in the Southbank Precinct. This event is unique to all other outrigging events in that it is conducted with only mixed crews and is raced on an 18km stretch of river winding under several bridges through the heart of the capital city.
RESI GO and RESI Cleveland were yet again major sponsors providing complementary resi paddle packs to all registered paddlers.
A cash prize pool of over $5000 was allocated to winners from the following divisions:
Mixed Master – 1st place: BRD OCC
Mixed Senior Master – 1st place: Outrigger Australia
Mixed Golden Master – 1st place: Noosa Nabbott
Unplaced teams went in a draw to win $200. The teams that won were:
- Northcliffe Open
- Coconuts Open
- Panamuna Open
- Panamuna Masters
- Budaberg Masters
- Fraser Coast Masters

Other exciting activities that took place during the course of the day included a BBQ, face painting, chocolate wheel competitions and a display of the Brisbane Outrigger Canoe Club Island Dancing Group. All of the money collected on the day has been donated to the Zig Zag Foundation – which raises funds for sick, underprivileged and at risk children between the ages of 0 and 18 years.
