Home renovations blog: Outfit your bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes

Following Shannon and Simon's win on The Block last week, the talk about their wardrobe has been constant. These are often overlooked renovations, but when done right they can completely reinvigorate a room. If you're considering redoing the bedrooms in your home, here are some tips to help you create the wardrobe of your dreams.

Make sure you have enough room

One problem that many people can run into when building a walk-in-wardrobe is failure to account for how much clothing they have. Having a wardrobe that's too small to hold all your clothes can lead to a number of complications and alterations that can be costly.

After taking out your renovation loan, it could be worth consulting with a professional to create a proper plan for you to follow. Seeking the help of a builder is the best way to avoid problems in the future.

Furthermore, a lot of people use their wardrobes as a private space to get changed. If you're interested in doing this, be sure to raise this with your designer/builder so they can factor extra space into their plans.

Get the right mix of hanging and drawer space

Being able to store all your attire is usually the main goal of having an elaborate wardrobe. Therefore, make sure the designs incorporate enough hanging and drawer space for all your clothing. This is often split, with the drawers/shelving at knee height, while hanging clothes are found above these at eye level.

The benefit of this means you can organise your clothing in an easily accessible and identifiable way - including His and Hers sides to the wardrobe. These are just some things to give consideration to when you're beginning the wardrobe renovation in your home.
