Tips for renovations

Redesigning your home can be a stressful experience, especially if you've never done anything like it before. There are so many different things to consider and think about that you'd be forgiven for feeling a little lost at sea. However, don't let this fear stop you from taking out a renovation loan and making the changes you want to your home.

For example, Channel 7 House Rules resident design expert Carolyn Burns-McCrave recently pointed out a number of tips to help renovators get the most out of their projects. Speaking to the Property Observer website, she outlined some things to consider when undertaking your own renovations.

Draw up a master plan

Having a clear idea about exactly what you want to achieve, how you're going to achieve these goals and the timeframe you set yourself for these achievements will help streamline the entire process. Nothing hurts a development more than misdirection, with clarity ensuring you always know exactly what's going to be happening when.

Bigger isn't always better

Renovate to the shape and size of your home. After all, knocking down a wall and extending your lounge may seem like a good idea, but your end goal should reflect what the best use of space for you and your family is.

Having a functional, smaller space over an empty, larger one could be a better solution, and should be factored into your overall design.

Patience is a virtue

These things take time. You can't expect renovations - especially large scale ones - to be completed in a matter of days. While your day-to-day life may be slightly displaced for a period, keeping calm and clearheaded will help the time pass.

And before you know it, you'll have your home back and better than ever, ready for you and your family to enjoy well into the future.
